Here we are going to see how we can install new Tamil font for iPhone Safari.

Requirements:
1. iPhone ( I used iPhone 3G)
2. iPhoneBrowswer ( Download Here )
3. iPhone USB Cable

 

Steps:
1. Install the iPhoneBrowser Application in your system and run it.
2. Connect iPhone to your System using USB cable
Now the files in your iPhone will be loaded in the iPhoneBrowser like normal Windows Explorer.
3. Click GO TO LOCATION -> FONTS in iPhoneBrowser
4. You will see a file called CGFontCache.plist, Save the file for Backup and create one more copy for our changes.
Now we need to convert the plist format to XML format to make changes
5. Go to website: http://iappcat.com/plist/bin2xml to convert to XML format
6. Upload your plist file in the above link and save the converted file your system as
CGFontCache.plist
7. Now include the following in the file:

8. Now save the plist file and replace it with the iPhone /System/Library/Fonts/CGFontCache.plist using iPhoneBrowser
9. Now Drag and Drop the Eltpan-n.ttf file in /System/Library/Fonts/Cache
10. Restart the iPhone and try www.dailythanthi.com to enjoy reading News in Tamil

  1. After installing OS 4.01 in my iPhone 3GS (locked phone), tamil fonts are rendering properly. Now I can able read all the tamil websites in my iPhone 3GS. If you have a locked iPhone and don’t want to Jailbreak and still want to read the tamil websites, I would highly recommend to upgrade your OS to 4.01.

  2. I read you bolg. It is very detailed and it is very use full for me. I am facing one issue while installing tamil font in iphone. I am not able to convert my CGFontCache.plist file into xml file. I tried to convert it and while downloading i am getting 0kb xml file. Can you please help me. If possible kindly send me your CGFontCache.plist with tamil font entry. I will put in my iphone.

    I am using iphone 2g with ios 3.1.3.

  3. மிகவும் பயன்மிக்க தகவல். சகோ. செந்தில் குறிப்பிட்ட அதே பிரச்சினைதான் எங்களுக்கும் ஏற்பட்டது. இருப்பினும் இதனை இன்ஸடால் செய்யும் முறையை படங்களுடன் விளக்குவீர்களாயின் அதிகமானோருக்கு ரொமபவும் பயனுள்ளதாக அமையும். இதனைப் பல முறை செய்து பார்த்தும் முடியவில்லையாதலால் இந்த வேண்டுதலை தங்களிடம் முன்வைக்கிறோம்.
